Study Something Shining

Hello there! Here is Zhi-Fan/ʈʂɨ fæn/ (Charles) Dai/daɪ/. For convenience, you can just call me Zhi-Fan(/ʈʂɨ˥˩ fæn˧˥/), or my western name Charles directly.

I recently completed my Master’s degree in Photonics Engineering at Ghent University and am currently in a gap period, preparing for the next phase of my academic journey.

Welcome to my research blog, where I archive my personal academic research collections and works. The title of this site, “SSS”, stands for “Studying Something Shining”, referring to the field of photonics that I am dedicating. I love this shiny science.

The head figure of this website is the famous Pillars of Creation Messier 16 Eagle Nebula taken by NASA Hubble Space Telescope. The pillars are part of a small region of the Eagle Nebula, a vast star-forming region 6,500 light-years from Earth. The colors in the image highlight emission from several chemical elements. Oxygen emission is blue, sulfur is orange, and hydrogen and nitrogen are green.

The 404 page background figure of this website is taken by the Near-Infrared Camera (NIRCam) on NASA James Webb Space Telescope, it is the star-forming region NGC 3324 in the Carina Nebula.
